People come back to Web pages of public services especially to look for vacancies

22. 11. 2006 - Visitors are most often returning on Web pages of state administration bodies and local bodies to look for vacancies. It is a paradox that long-term loyalty to Web pages of municipalities, regions etc. is not based on the hypothetical interest in "official" information, but rather on the demand for jobs in these administrations. This finding arises from a long-term survey made by eMerite, a consulting company engaged in analyses of customer behaviour of visitors of Web pages and especially in evaluation of citizens' behaviour in relation to public service Web pages.

Besides the offer of vacancies, visitors are most interested in contact information (phone directories, organization charts, maps) and office hours. It also arises from the survey that people prefer to solve their issue directly in the office. On the Web pages, they are only looking for the information where, when and with whom they can resolve it. This corresponds with the days of the week with the highest rate of visits: even though administrations have abandoned the strict office hours on Mondays and Wednesdays, these days still amongst the ones with the highest visit rates. After contact information, the greatest interest is in official board information, i.e. public contracts, grants and subsidies. An interesting finding is that citizens prefer official information of the "How to Apply" (for identity card or driving licence) and "Forms" type to calendars of cultural events that should not be missing on Web pages of municipalities. We can observe some seasonal variations in visits of state and local government Web pages. For example, during summer holidays, calendars of events and tourist information (excursion tips, sports centres contacts) are some of the most popular sections. Municipal or regional administrations should profit from this fact and utilize an attractive form to draw attention to these events. The seasonal interest is associated also with school issues – each spring before the end of admission examinations and at the end of summer before the beginning of school year. More results of the survey are available to clients of eMerite Company.
